Philadelphia Skateboard Politics Continue To Unfold
The Philadelphia bureaucracy is at it again, and has rendered skatespot Dilworth Plaza largely unskateable through the $6,500 installation of "cleats and metal discs to railings and benches". Skateboard Helmet Law, More Considered By New York

A Performative Critique of the American City: the Urban Practice of Skateboarding, 1958-1998
About skateboarding, cities, and urban culture. An amazing essay by Iain Borden on the interrelationship between cities and skateboarding, in which the author seeks to "focus on the compositional and representational mode of skateboarding, to consider how it represents the city without maps, and how it speaks something of the city, without recourse to theory or texts." Quote this in your term paper and make your teacher happy. (extract: ...Ken Knabb (ed.), Situationist International Anthology, (Berkeley: Bureau of Public Secrets, 1981), pp. 5-8...) Skateparks Increasingly Accepted By Communities
"Snohomish County is riding the latest national trend in civic recreation, with five city-built skate parks opening since 1998, a sixth to open next month and six more in the discussion or planning stages. ... Now entire communities are coming together to raise money for skateboard parks, to give kids a place to practice their moves without breaking local no-skating laws or damaging public and private property.
