Vancouver Skateboard Coalition Aims To Forward Skateboarding
(Posted 5/7/2007)

By Josh Rabinowitz for SkateboardDirectory.com

Vancouver * -- According to Vancouver 24, younger skateboarders in that community don't have as much of the positive attitude that has permeated skateboarding for years. Said Jeff Cole, youth worker and skateboard instructor there, "The older skaters would help the young kids out and make the experience positive but that's kind of faded away with this generation. We're trying to encourage that again."

And so the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition has led a free British Columbia * Youth Week event at the Plaza skatepark *, under the Georgia * Viaduct. The event forwarded skateboarding and its culture. ""We're trying to show that this is a positive thing," said Jeff Cole. "I think this is part of new youth culture and Vancouver is one of the spots it is really growing. There are a lot of young kids just starting to skateboard but have trouble finding places to go where they can be safe."
