Skateboard And Create Jam, Kingston New York, May 13th 2006
(Posted 5/11/2006)

By Josh Rabinowitz for SkateboardDirectory.com

Kingston, New York * -- TSX Skate Shop, a local skateshop and skatepark * in Kingston, New York, is holding their new "Skate and Create Jam" on Saturday, May 13th at 1pm.

The contest Jam on Saturday is part of One Skateboard Co.'s East Coast tour, which had previously been known as "the Beast of the East".

The contest this years is scheduled to feature a trick contest, skateboard demonstrations by the riders of One Skateboard Co. and guest skaters A.J. Kohn and J.J. O'Donnell. Other guests are expected to be on hand for the contest as well.

While most skateboard competitions focus solely on the skating skills of the individual, the format of Saturday's competition places competitors in teams and allows one skater to compete for the group, in an attempt to diminish the attention placed on single skateboarders , said Chris O'Leary from TSX.

"It's not about putting pressure on the kids, it's about letting them create," said Kohn, the event's coordinator and MC, "It's more about building community and having fun and expressing yourself.

The contest is planned in three parts: flat ground, handrail and mini ramp. Competitors of all ages and experience are to attend and compete.

Contest sign-ups start at 11 a.m. and the competing in the contest requires a $20 fee. The event starts at 1 p.m. and is free to watch.

O'Leary also said that TSX will be opening a new store that will not feature a skatepark, this summer in the Poughkeepsie Galleria.

TSX Skate Shop is located at 744 Ulster Ave., Kingston New York,12401 and can be reached at 845-657-9363.
