Mega Skateboard Plaza Planned for Fayetteville, North Carolina
(Posted 4/21/2006)

By Josh Rabinowitz for SkateboardDirectory.com

Fayetteville, North Carolina *-- While Skateparks * have been around since the 1970's, the Skateboard Plaza * concept is relatively new. Designed with features that mimic stairs, handrails, ramps and other items found in urban settings, skate plazas have been increasing in popularity.

Soon, Fayetteville, North Carolina may be put on the skateboard map with what Dave Swift *, editorial director of The Skateboard Mag *, says will be the largest indoor skate plaza * in the United States *.

Terry Grimble and Richard King are teaming together to open the Mega Skate Plaza *, a planned 45,000-square-foot skateboarding park at 500 Blount St in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The plaza is scheduled to be built by Team Pain *, a highly regarded Florida * company with over 20 years experience in the skatepark business.

The design is to build three city-style skating areas from wood, concrete and steel. The "courtyard plaza" will feature obstacles typically found outside a public building; a "school grounds" area will mimic an instructional setting; and a "back alley" region set to include a six-foot "roof gap" between two mock high-rise buildings.

Together, the structures will be arranged like a replica of a mythical city block, encapsulated under a 30-foot tall roof.
