Juice Sound, Surf and Skateboard Magazine Turns 10
(Posted 3/25/2004)

(By Josh Rabinowitz for SkateboardDirectory.com)

Juice Magazine *, which calls itself "corporate skateboarding's worst nightmare" has completed its first decade of publication.

Says editor Jim Murphy in the latest issue's "Letter to the People", "We're the last of the underground mags. Why? Because we skateboard and we care. Other mags are starting to cover pool skating because it's the trendy thing to do. ... This issue we bring you the heart and soul of the underground and give respect to those who skate for fun."

Duane Peters * was quoted as saying "Juice Magazine is the only magazine that’s worth a sh*t and I support it completely."

The landmark tenth anniversary issue, which is issue #57 and numbers about 160 pages, includes coverage of Steve Olson *, Bob Burnquist *, Christian Hosoi *, Claus Grabke, Kenny Hughes *, Peter Hewitt, the Dogtown * Chronicles, Allen Sarlo, Laird Hamilton, Tom Knox, Shepard Fairey *, Helen Stickler *, George Clinton, Bo Diddley, and much more.

In spite of their outwardly anti-corporate stance, the magazine is apparently financially reliant on corporate advertisements in their magazine and on their website. At the time of this writing, their website's homepage is dominated by a large advertisement for a luxury car dealer in Houston, Texas *.

Published out of Santa Monica, California *, Juice Magazine claims a readership of "125,000+". More can be found out about Juice Magazine at their website, www.juicemagazine.com, or by calling them at 310-399-5336.
