Tony Hawk Promotes Reading
(Posted 3/4/2004)

(By Josh Rabinowitz for SkateboardDirectory.com)

Chicago, Illinois * -- According to a recent PR Newswire, a teen's review of their favorite book could let them meet Tony Hawk * himself.

Teens between the ages of twelve and eighteen have until April 23rd, 2004 * to submit an entry in the national "Get on Board and Read @ your library" program, sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and Dean Foods, "marketer and distributor of HERSHEY®'S Milks and MilkShakes".

The grand prize of the program is a trip to meet Hawk at a stop on his 2004 Boom Boom Huck Jam Tour, an arena show featuring top action sports stars. There are also six runner-up prizes which include copies of Hawk's book, "Hawk: Occupation: Skateboarder," and a one-month's supply of HERSHEY®'S Milks and MilkShakes.

"The chance to meet Tony Hawk is obviously a great incentive to get teens interested in the program. The good news is that they'll have fun reading along the way -- and have a chance to see all the great things available at their library," said ALA Executive Director Keith Michael Fiels.

To enter, participants need to choose a favorite book, arrange to be sponsored by their local school or library, and then submit "an entry on the message of the book and why it's meaningful to them." The entry can be an essay, or more "creative", such as a painting, poem, collage or video.

Group submissions are also accepted help to facilitate different work styles. For example teens' submissions can be from a single person, or from a group of eligible teens.

Information, including entry form and official rules is available at www.hersheysmilk.com/getonboard . To qualify, entries must be postmarked by April 23, 2004.

Dean Foods is a "founding partner in the ALA's Campaign for America's Libraries, a multi-year public education campaign to showcase the value libraries and librarians in the 21st century."

More information on the campaign can be found at the American Library Association Web site at www.ala.org .
