Los Angeles *, California * -- GhostriderX Skateboards announced it won the ISPO * Brand New Company Finalist Award at the Winter 2003 * ISPO in Munich, Germany *. The competition was established by ISPO, "the world's sports trade fair", jointly with DuPont "to encourage enterprise and innovation in the sports industry". Out of a field of 151 contestants, the GhostriderX company won for its line of products including the GhostBoard(tm), which "give skateboarders the feel of snowboarding or wave riding on the street".
Says Cody Boychuk, GhostriderX President and Founder: "Our main focus is to develop and create new cutting edge quality products ... and we've succeeded. With this ISPO award, our goal to create the most innovative and exciting new entry in the board sports marketplace has been validated." Boychuk continues: "The GhostBoard is a one-of-a-kind product that brings the thrill of surfing to the street, and the feel of snowboarding to pavement."
According to Boychuk, the GhostBoard's patented Deep Carve System(tm) allows the skateboard to recreate the sensation of snowboarding or surfing, and the 14-wheel truck assembly (seven wheels * in the front, and seven in the rear) adds 20-degrees additional pitch over conventional boards and truck combinations. In addition, as GhostRiderX tells it, "most skateboards use rubber bushings that add unnatural resistance in a turn -- GhostriderX skateboards have no bushings, which translates to zero *-resistance in a turn and no speed-wobbles, letting you carve deeply and smoothly rail-to-rail."
Concludes Boychuk, "We intend to continue pushing the boundaries of street board-sports to provide consumers worldwide with a hip new forward-thinking alternative to wobbly-bushing truck systems found in conventional products."
According to GhostriderX, "leading market research firms have identified board-sports as being the fastest growing market segment of the sports industry, with upwards of 20 million skateboard and snowboard users in the U.S. alone. Construction of new skate parks throughout the world is a growing trend that shows that skateboard sports have grown up and become part of the mainstream, and are no longer a sub-culture activity."
Available in long board, freestyle *, and "hybrid" versions (42-, 32- and 36-inches), the GhostBoard has interchangeable "designer" decks made from 7-ply Canadian hard rock maple *, and "highest quality" hardware, and supports "ghost wheels" or the faster "speed wheels". New GhostriderX deck styles for Spring 2003 are said to include the "Mind Jet" and "Club Kid." These and the GhostBoard will reportedly be available direct from www.GhostriderX.com or "through skateboard dealers worldwide".
GhostriderX Skateboards LLC is a privately held company located in Los Angeles. Cody Boychuk, who in his own words "helped pioneer the snowboarding industry in the early 1980s", founded the company in early 2001 *.
