Osiris Shoes * and World Cup Skate (WCS) announce the return of World Cup Skateboarding * to the UK * in 2003 * with the introduction of The Armageddon Cup, which is expected to be the biggest WCS event in 2003. With the highest ever WCS prize purse of $101,000, the World’s best skateboarders are slated to gather at Epic Skatepark * in Birmingham * between the 11th – 13th July.
The Armageddon Cup is the United Kingdom *'s leg of the WCS Tour, and claims to be "the only recognized and sanctioned professional skate tour" in England *. The sanctioning by the WCS is expected to draw top professional skaters from around the world to compete for the record prize purse, and coveted world title points. Over 100 international skaters are expected to compete in vert and street disciplines, including "Vert giants" such as Pierre-Luc Gagnon * and the UK’s own Ali Cairns *, "as well as the usual street legends".
The contest is to feature a world-class street course designed by Dave Duncan and costing over $100,000, and an eighteen metre (about 60 foot), "king-size" vert ramp *. For those who find that they would rather skate than watch, WCS promises a public street course and mini ramp, as well as a trade village and refreshment stands. Also expected are live bands and DJs.
WCS promises that the world class skateboarding in Armageddon Cup will make it one of the premier skate events in 2003, and encourages your attendance "to watch the unsurpassable talents of the world's best, skate yourself, check out the retail village, or just hang out".
Tickets to Armageddon Cup will be on sale starting February 1st, 2003 on www.ticketweb.com; prices start at £6 (about $10-$12) per day.
