Mega Skateboard Plaza Planned for Fayetteville, North Carolina

Soon, Fayetteville, North Carolina * may be put on the skateboard map with what some say will be the largest indoor skate plaza * in the United States *. The Mega Skate Plaza * design calls for "courtyard plaza", "school grounds", and "back alley" areas arranged like a replica of a mythical city block and encapsulated under a 30-foot tall roof. Harold Hunter in the New York Times

Harold Hunter *, whose skateboarding prowess and outsize personality led him to modeling, movie roles, celebrity friendships and prominence in the downtown Manhattan scene, was found dead on Feb. 17 in the East Village housing project where he grew up. (Full Article) Search *

Forbes has covered Rob Dyrdek *, who says "...I wanted to skate, and if I wasn't going to skate, then I would do something in the skateboard industry". Rob is the star of MTV *'s 'reality' show Rob & Big. A Connecticut * newspaper has waxed philosophical on the topics of skateboarding and rap -- the why, the how, the when. The connection is undeniable. Also, Montreal, Canada *'s "Big O" skatespot has been immortalized in a new book and article in the local newspaper. Harold Hunter, Zoo York Skateboard Pro, Dies at 31

The skateboard community is saddened by the passing of Harold Hunter *, who was probably best known for his involvement with Zoo York * Skateboards, Rockstar Bearings *, and his role of "Harold" in the 1995 * movie "Kids". Harold was "an original Zoo Yorker and ambassador representing NYC the world around," read a statement on Zoo York's website. "Harold Hunter will be deeply missed... Skateboard Grab Bag: 3000 Miles on a Skateboard, Active Blinks on Blanks, Vans Turns 40

Dave Cornthwaite has broken the previous distance skateboarding record by one kilometer, completing his 4831km ride in 5 months. Active Ride Shop and Mail Order has announced that they will no longer carry blank decks starting January 1st, 2007. Also, Vans * shoes, now owned by conglomerate VF Outdoor, has turned 40 years old. The shoes have enjoyed a long assocation with the core skateboard market and at least one pair was designed by Tony Alva * and Stacy Peralta *.
