Skateboard Ban "Will Not Be Passed" in Cape May, New Jersey (Posted 12/3/2003)
The city ordinance forwarded without public comment which would levy a $100 fine and possible skateboard confiscation against anyone who would "possess, park, stand, carry, or transport" a skateboard "will not be passed", said the town's Mayor. "It borders on constitutional rights", said Councilman Jerry Gaffney. But some feel that the ban should still be considered. (Full Article) Search *

Local Reaction to Outlawing Skateboard Possession (Posted 11/21/2003)
It is, simply, a length of laminated wood with two sets of wheels * attached. Why then is City Council in Cape May trying to ban the mere possession of a skateboard? The Council has introduced an ordinance making it illegal to "possess, park or stand, carry or transport" a skateboard at the city's Promenade, the Washington * Street Mall, public parks and any other governmentally-controlled public area in town. Skateboard Carrying Outlawed in New Jersey City? (Posted 11/19/2003)
At a time when many towns are building skateboard parks, the Cape May, New Jersey * City Council plans to ban the mere possession of the boards in some public areas. Without taking comments from their constituents, the council unanimously introduced an ordinance that makes it illegal to 'possess, park or stand, carry or transport,' any skateboard at some public places within the city.
