According to Syracuse.com, currently-California *-based company Comet Skateboards *, which is set to make a biodegradable "Green" skateboard with partner e2e Materials, is moving to Ithaca to be closer to its partner. The materials company has been hired to make decks "entirely from plant fibers and a resin derived from soy protein". Said Comet Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Jason Salfi, "Comet has always focused on sustainability while producing excellent skateboards. This move is our next step on that path."
New Zealand * news source Stuff.co.nz reports that 22-year old Kiwi industrial designer Ben Thomsen won the top prize in the Designers Institute's national award for his skateboard-like device designed to move on grass under human power. Judges for the award say his entry showed an ability to challenge traditional solutions for human-powered vehicles.
