Skateboard Grab Bag: Element Signs Muska, Skateboard Exhibit, Skateboarding Profiled By NYT, Flexdex Black Decks
(Posted 12/13/2006)

By Josh Rabinowitz with Jackson Vandeberg for SkateboardDirectory.com

New York * -- According to Element * and skateboard media channels, Chad Muska * has signed on as a member of the Element Skateboarding Team. Says Muska, "I look forward to this new chapter in my skateboarding career... And you can bet on it that we are going to make some big things happen."

A Las Vegas * art studio called MTZC is hosting the LVSK8 Deuce art show starting December 1st, 2006, and is having a "second opening" from 6PM to 10PM on December 15th at 1551 South Commerce Street. Admission is free. The show is scheduled to exhibit "close to 100 skateboards" from regional artists. The show's popularity has been surprising: says organizer Michael Todoran, "people were already lining up before the show had started."

The New York Times * has profiled the sport of skateboarding again, this time focusing on Jamie Thomas *' history in the industry, from American Zero * Divisions into the three brands Mystery, Fallen footwear, and Zero, all under the umbrella of Black Box Inc. Thomas is quoted as saying ""The thing that makes skateboarding unique is that it's a subculture. You're inside the group. Until you cross the line you'll stay inside the group. Crossing the line is selling, and you'll go down on the brand credibility barometer." The article goes on to talk with surf retailer Dale Velzy, ASR spokesperson Lora Bodmer, as well as a representative of Nike *. Also interviewed are the leaders of Burton and Quiksilver *, and of course, Tony Hawk *. The article also mentions Reebok's recent licensing agreement with Stevie Williams *' Dirty Ghetto Kids label.

Transworld * Business is reporting that Flexdex, has announced a new deck which they guarantee will never "delam, break, or die". Said to be constructed of a new fiberglass composite "Black" material, the company claims that the board is the "strongest and most rider responsive board on the market".
