According to information from Deluxe San Francisco *, there will be a "back to the banks" event at Manhattan's Brooklyn Banks * on Saturday, August 19th, 2006.
Promoted by Spitfire * and backed by an organization called the "New York City * Skateboard Association", the event seeks to create permanent skateboard specific areas and obstacles at the Brooklyn Banks in New York City.
It's also been reported by Transworld * that the event "encourages skaters everywhere to work with their local city governments to preserve established "natural" skate spots in public spaces."
Apparently there will be a jam session and three 'best trick' sessions * on the banks, the blocks, and the stairway/rail, and thousand of dollars in cash and prizes are expected to be on hand.
