Mike Vallely *, also known as Mike V, will be on hand this week at The Black Pearl Skate Park on the Cayman Islands. He is scheduled to be present at sessions * from Wednesday to Friday (19 - 21 April) from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and on Saturday, 22 April, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
The event is presented by local radio station X107.1, which is also soliciting skaters to join their official "X Skate" team.
Fans can also obtain autographs from the skateboarding legend.
X107.1 Programme Director "J-KRUZ", commented that 'X107.1 is extremely proud to present this fantastic event with Black Pearl, which will give Cayman residents the unique opportunity to develop their skills with a skate boarding legend. We are also honoured to have Mike V assist in forming X107.1's 'X Skate' team.'
The event is also designed to increase awareness about the skateboard development camp at the Black Pearl shop. The camp's entrance fee is $300, or if participants spend over $100 in the shop they can register for $200.
The development camp will reportedly be filmed to be featured in Mike V's television show, 'Drive - Notes from the wilderness,' which airs on Fuel Television. The show will document Mike V's visit to the skate park and skate camp *, and will also include tidbits of Mike V's experience on the Island with Cayman residents.
Kevin Grzybouski, the supervisor overseeing Black Pearl's Skate and Surf and Boardshop commented: 'We could not ask for a better person than Mike V to promote our Island and the park within the action sports industry - he prides himself on having strong family values as well as his passion for skateboarding.'
Mike V resides in Long Beach, California * and was first sponsored in 1986 * by Powell Peralta * at the age of 16, leading him to turn pro the following year. He currently represents Element * Skateboards, Element Apparel and Element Footwear as well as Destructo Trucks *, Speed Metal Bearings * and SoBe Beverages. Mike V is almost constantly on tour, spreading his message of individuality and self-expression through his skateboarding, poetry and music. Other sponsors of the development camp include Cayman Airways, Red Bull * and the Courtyard Marriott.
