England *-- The UK * is about to unveil two new Skateboard Plazas. Milton Keynes Plaza will officially open on Saturday September 24th, 2005 *, and Stoke Plaza is set to open on Sunday 30th October 2005.
As skateplaza.com puts it, a skate plaza * is made of everyday urban elements including "ledges, benches, stairs, rails, and flat, smooth ground", and are designed to be parks which can include "grass, trees, fountains, and sculptures." The Skate Plaza concept is loosely modeled on the widely visited and once-famous Embarcadero and Love Park * skatespots.
The opening of the Milton Keynes Plaza on 24th of September 2005, will reportedly be attended by "the Blueprint crew, Unabomber and Danny Wainwright *'s 50-50 shop team. ... This looks set to be one of the great days for British * skateboarding."
At 34,000 square feet (about 3,150 square meters), Stoke Plaza, opening October 30th 2005, will apparently measure up as "Europe *'s largest Skate Plaza" and its October's opening event is slated to feature a skate jam with bands and DJ's performing throughout the day and is sponsored by Eastpak.
Teams and ridersare expected for the Stoke Plaza event from companies including Eastpak (UK), DC (UK), Globe * (UK), Adio * (UK), Unabomber, Carhartt (UK), Casual, Greed (UK), Karma, and Ennvi.
Skate plazas are unique landmarks that benefit skateboarding and the surrounding community and it's clear that more are on the horizon.
