Skateboarders to Skate4Cancer Across America and Canada
(Posted 8/22/2003)

There are few families that have not been touched in some way by cancer. After watching friends and loved ones suffer because of this terrible widespread disease, Rob Dyer, Kyle Massaar, and a group of friends from Ontario, Canada * have decided to get on a skateboard and do something about it.

They have organized a trip to skateboard across america and Canada to raise money and awareness for cancer research. The expedition, called skate4cancer *, will start in April of 2004 * and is expected to take about 6 months as Rob and fellow skateboarders travel, by skateboard, 4,000 miles across the continent, visiting skateparks * on the way. After reaching the east coast, the group will head north to Ontario, Canada.

Rob reports that about 15 to 20 skaters have expressed interest in joining the group for 200-300 mile legs. Interested skaters who would like to join the group are encouraged to contact Rob, but he notes that he cannot provide food or tents for those joining the group.

Rob and other volunteers aim to raise over $40,000 US for the Canadian Cancer Society. In addition to charitable donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the group is also seeking a donors to provide other materials including Propane Stoves, Propane Tanks (lots of these), Propane BBQs, Tarps, Tents, Fridge/Freezer, Coolers, Laptops, and Microwaves.

The Tony Hawk * Fan Club will be donating autographed pictures, Ronnie Bertino * of ATM Skateboards has also pledged his support, and skate4cancer is looking for pros to appear at skateparks or to donate time to ride a segment. Skate4Cancer will accept branded contributions.
