Powell Team Update
(Posted 10/11/2002)

Powell Team * update.

Steve Caballero * got 3rd at the Tim Brauch * Memorial Bowl contest at Vans *, Milpitas last month. He will be competing in the street and master's bowl at the Vans Triple Crown * in Oceanside. Did you know Steve Caballero was on the first cover of Transworld Skateboarding Magazine *?

Pat Channita * has a new wheel sponsor, Go Wheels *. He will also be competing in the VANS Triple Crown Finals and then traveling up to Toronto *, Canada * to compete in a WCS contest. He is currently ranked as the number 2 street skater in the WCS North American rankings.

His second shoe for Genetic * is now available and he is working with Proflix, shooting for some 411 stuff and has been working on a Strength interview. Pat also re-surfaced all his ramps at the Channita Training Grounds.

Danny Wainwright * competed in a few European * contests at the end of summer and did well as always. He has been filming the lil' rippers on his 50-50 shop team and getting footage of himself for his shops' new video. Danny got a photo in the Big Brother * England * article, and continues to get loads of coverage in the UK *'s top skate mags, Sidewalk and Document. As always, Danny has been having a laugh with his mates in Bristol and skates all the time and continues to help skaters and skating grow in his country. His new Vans shoe, 'sums' is out in Europe.

Moses Itkonen * went on the Red Dragon Tough Guy III Tour. Moses managed to get in a fight with a 300 lb. bouncer and broke his leg skating on the last day. Moses will be out for a while with his leg injury, no word on what kind of damage Moses gave to the bouncer. He is living back up in Vancouver *.

Jason Ellis * spent the summer busy on the Tony Hawk * skatepark * tour with television hosting, interviews and skateboard demos. On a few of his off days he flew over to England to compete in a specialty vert event where Tony Hawk won and everyone else came in last. Jason has a sequence in this month's Big Brother.

Jon Comer * was on the Vans Warp tour all summer long doing vert and mini-ramp demos around the country. He is currently on a Da Kine * Bags skate tour through the East Coast. He will be back soon and entering the bowl contest at the Triple Crown Finals on Oct. 5-6. He will also be finishing up his photos for a Big Brother interview with Erik Olsen this month.

You can see what Tony Hawk, Mike Vallely *, and others think of Jon in a preview of Jon's documentary at www.agentogden.com/comer.

Rodney Jones * was back home in Baltimore after his busy summer. You know that one water gap that Rodney has footage of in his 411 Wheels of Fortune and that sequence kick flipping for a Powell ad awhile back?...Well, he went there with Photographer Deville Nunes and was going to get a banger. After he ollied it a few times, he went to switch ollie it, and as he was rolling up to it, his wheels got stuck in the wood run up, and he plunged towards the gap and fell right into the dirty muck of the Baltimore Port. He didn't get the banger, but he got some really funny footage. He took off a few days after the water gap incident to go on the month long Skateboarder Magazine * skatepark tour across the U.S. When he gets back, he is going to try to get a car with some of that summer contest money and come back out to CA to stay for awhile. How much longer will Rodney remain an am...we'll see.

Tony Manfre * has been up to no good. He's just been skating around Sonoma and SF. He got a Who's Hot in Skateboarder, and a 2pg spread photo in Thrasher * recently. He is working on a SLAP interview and will be up to Powell to hook up with Erik Olsen to shoot some more photos for it.

Silas Baxter-Neal * just got a sick Venture * ad, a Next in SLAP, and a photo in the 2002 * Transworld Photo Annual. He also has a Transworld Check Out and a Heckler * am interview coming out soon. Silas is a skateboard machine, but he needs some repairs, and he will be getting his bolts and metal plate out of his arm this month. He will be out for a few months recovering in hometown Eugene, Oregon * but should be good as new by the new year.

Silas will miss the damn am * finals at the end of October at the Volcom * Warehouse. But don't worry because Oliver Buchanan *, Jordan Hoffart *, Tony Manfre, Rodney Jones, and Powell flow rider, Brian Price will be there representing Powell Skateboards.

Oliver Buchanan will be staying out an extra week in CA. He won the damn am series in Utah * and is pre-qualified for the finals. He is in school again. Oliver is a Junior, but will graduate next year. He is really smart in case you didn't know. Oliver will be getting surgery on his arm this month, but his is very minor, and it will only put Oliver out of commission for a few days.

Jordan Hoffart has a 6 page interview in Canada‚s SBC Skate Magazine. He has been working at a local skatepark sitting around making sure kids have their pads on and skating on his breaks. He started school up this month as a Senior. He has been skating and shooting a lot up in Vancouver with buddy and Es' Canada team Manager, Judah Oakes. He will stay out an extra week after the damn am contest to hang with Team dude Erik Olsen and the rest of the Powell team.

Andy Macdonald * is no longer riding for Powell or Bones Bearings *. He will be starting a new brand called ANDY MAC skateboards. Look for boards this spring. To read more about Andy go to www.andymacdonald.com

Malcom Watson will venture to Spain * to work on his newest video part.

Not so little anymore Andrew Wolbach from Spokane is going under the knife.

Chase Ehrlich quits Dragon Optical--huh?

Alex Chalmers * is no longer on Bones Wheels
