16-Year-Old from Anaheim Takes Home Keys to Ford Ranger FX4, while Burnquist Puts on Show in Vert Sunday at the $300,000 Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding

Oceanside, CA (October 6, 2002) ? The Xbox World Championships of Skateboarding concluded on Sunday with sixteen-year old Anaheim native Austen Seaholm taking home the keys to a Ford Ranger FX4 as the 2002 Vans Triple Crown of Skateboarding Champion. Seaholm followed up his 10th place finish at the Slam City Jam in Vancouver in May and win at the Mountain Dew Nationals in Cleveland in June with a third place finish in the Street on Saturday. In addition to the Ford Ranger FX4, Seaholm won $17,500 including Best Trick in Street on Sunday with a frontside flip to late 180. In his first year as a pro, Seaholm won the Vans Amateur World Championships just this past February.

In the day's highlight event, several thousand witnessed an unconscious Bob Burnquist pull off a crazy final run on the mammoth Triple Crown Vert ramp to hold off San Diego native Andy Macdonald and Bucky Lasek (Baltimore, MD) and claim his second straight Vert title at the Xbox World's.

Anthony Furlong took the Vert overall points award and a check for $10,000, edging out Pierre Luc Gagnon.

Contest Results:

Men's Vert: Bob Burnquist, Andy Macdonald, and Bucky Lasek in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Young Guns Men's Bowl: Omar Hassan, Chris Gentry, and Brian Patch in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Ladies Bowl Jam: Cara-Beth Burnside, Jen O'Brien, and Jessica Starkweather in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

The Xbox World Championships of Skate coincided with the Vans BMX Championships to bring the world's best skaters and BMX riders to Southern California. For those who couldn't make it out this weekend, the Xbox World Championships of Skateboarding will air on NBC Sports on Saturday, December 21 at 3:00 pm EST and the Vans BMX Championships will air on FOX Sports Net this fall.
